Saturday dawned clear and sunny – and cold. The 3-4 inches of new snow tried valiantly to cover the shame of several days of the unseasonable melting the past week – but didn’t quite make it. Friends had been ready to unearth their flip flops and sun hats – but were back in snow boots and warm mitts.
Although the temperatures had fallen from +3 C to around -15, the sun shone brilliantly, and the wind was light. We found the path through the woods quite firm, as it is used as a snow mobile track
In some of the trees, large blobs of snow still lingered from the storms.
The low position of the sun penciled dramatic shadows on the new fallen snow as we hiked through the winter woods.
Even small streams are still running in the winter – some much tinier than this one.
At first I exclaimed about the white berries on the tree up ahead –
but it was a pussy will covered in silvery catkins.
People weren’t the only ones that had been lulled into a false sense of Spring being just around the corner, as we discovered on our morning walk.

Hi, Just to let you know—we are having a -50 windchill weekend. Really cold!! Baine spent the day plowing snow……March has come in like a lion, a very chilly lion.
Yes. I heard. If we are in the deep freeze, you are on the dark side of the moon. Makes a good title though. Hope it warms up soon for you.
We are still experiencing minus double digits for our ‘highs’ – been a long, extra ordinarily cold and snowy winter for our area. March is looking much like January and there is no relief promised. Good weather for hibernating in the sewing room.
Lovely pics Kathi……the temps have gone up a bit since yesterday so now of course it is SNOWING…better than -50 tho…I am finally going to dig into the fabric corner and see what I can come up with….something EASY I hope as I haven’t sewed in many months. I keep saying I prob forget how to even thread the needle..
It’s like riding a bike, Barb. You’ll remember when you begin and really enjoy bring back.
