Nova Scotia Holiday

Back in 2005 a Nova Scotia Mom entrusted her son to me when he came to northern Alberta to try out the life of an oilman. It didn’t work out, and he is back on the open seas, but I’d always wanted to go and see where he came from, and meet his parents.

Well, here I am, and it’s been wonderful.

Diana Hutt and I met through an online quilting group, along with another lady, Sue Lanz, from the US. We arranged to spend this week together sewing at Roseway, NS. Stitching, laughing, enjoying Diana’s great cooking, and fresh seafood every day has been such a treat.

Today had a special treat in store for us, as Jack took us all out fishing. It was pretty foggy

It was interesting to see all the navigation equipment aboard.

I love the way everything is such bright colors. There is a spider web here, covered in dew drops.

Jack caught the first fish, followed by Sue…..

But it was pretty dry for the rest of us. Someone had gotten to the mackerel ahead of us, it seemed.

We moved several times with no luck. Then jack took us where he was sure we would catch pollock, and the fun began. Took me a while – I think the fish just couldn’t let a Prairie girl catch them. But perseverance won out.

We caught our limit and are looking forward to a seafood feast later today.

Here are a few other photos I took on our way back to shore.

Jack and Terry Lanz giving a thumbs up on a successful trip.

Buoys and fog.

Back at Ingomar wharf, where I helped moor the boat.

Not bad for a Prairie girl!

Hey, Prairie Girl! It is a delight to receive a post from you again. Every once in awhile, I wonder what adventure you may be experiencing at that moment. I truly love the Maritimes, have been there three times, and have yet to get on a fishing boat. Knowing a fisherman (or the relative of one) sure helps, right! As always, your pictures are those of an artist. I always enjoy them. And, wow, you are one slim woman. Thanks for that picture of you. Thank you for colouring my life. (It’s already colourful, but there is always room for more.) Janice
